Effective date:

The short version

Dimly has no account, no ads and no analytics. Everything you put into the app stays on your phone. The app does not send it anywhere, and I never receive it.

Who is responsible

Dimly is made by one person: Michal Damborský, Czech Republic. You can reach me at hello@getdimly.com.

The app sends nothing to me, so I do not handle the data you enter in it. I only handle the emails you send me.

What stays on your phone

  • Settings: your bedtime, reminder time, sound and light choices, language and colours.
  • Night history: the date, when the lights went out, the sound and light you used and how long you wound down.
  • Morning answers: how the night went and what helped, if you answer.
  • Notes you write in "Empty your head" before sleep.

All of this is saved in the app's own storage and protected by your phone like any other app. If you use iCloud Backup or Android backup, your phone may include it in your own backup. I cannot see those backups.

What leaves your phone

Nothing. The app makes no network requests: there is no server, no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no ads. Reminders are handled by your phone itself.

If you tap a link in the app, for example a sound's source in Credits, it opens in your browser. That website's own privacy rules apply. Apple and Google may show me general store statistics, such as download counts. These come from the store, not from the app.

Permissions

  • Notifications: only if you turn on a reminder before bedtime. Reminders are planned on your phone and nothing is sent to a server.
  • Android only: the app lists permissions to keep playing sound while the screen is off and to vibrate with the breathing guide. The framework the app is built with adds internet access by default. The app does not use it.

How to delete your data

  • In the app: Settings > Delete all data removes everything the app has stored and cancels planned reminders.
  • Only your history: open Nights and delete one night or all nights.
  • Uninstalling the app also deletes everything it stored on your phone.

Copies in your phone's backup follow the rules of your backup service.

If you email me

I use your email only to reply to you. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering your message. Emails reach me through my email providers, Cloudflare (Email Routing) and Google (Gmail). I delete support emails within 12 months after the conversation ends, or sooner if you ask.

This website

This website is a set of plain pages. It uses no cookies, no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. The only code on it is a few lines in the demo video player, which run inside the video and send nothing. The hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security and to run the service.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask me for access to, correction or deletion of the personal data I hold about you, ask me to restrict its use, object to it, or ask for a copy. In practice this means the emails you sent me. Write to hello@getdimly.com. The data inside the app is yours: you can see, change and delete it in the app at any time.

You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz), or to the authority in your country.

Changes

If anything here changes, I will update this page and its effective date. If the app ever collects anything, it will ask you first, in the app, and the change will be described here before it happens.
